Greetings, and a big THANK YOU for your support!

By way of introduction, I am currently a penultimate year undergraduate reading Economics at the University of Warwick in the UK!

Having been raised in a single parent household, I understand the impact that financial and emotional struggles can have on an individual- not only in the form of physiological distress, but also having far-reaching effects on one’s studies, careers and relationships. As such, I am committed to alleviating the stresses and worries of those in disadvantaged positions, regardless of age, gender or race. Thus, LA Assist was born.

In addition, having been successful in competitive internship applications i.e. Investment Banking, Consulting and Private Equity, I found satisfaction helping friends and customers find success in the application process. I wish to provide my tried and proven strategies, interview techniques and CV structuring tips to aspiring individuals. Coupled with entrepreneurship experience and a passion for the financial markets, I am confident that LA Apply with its tailored approach will provide holistic, winning advice to every customer.

To this end, I built LA Edge with a complementary, advisory business model where revenue from LA Apply can be channeled where necessary to LA Assist i.e. in the form of meal vouchers, care packages or outreach efforts.

Lets achieve your dreams together!

WHY

It all started a year ago…

When I was frantically applying for summer internships in my room. Entire days spent crafting cover letters, refining CVs, rehearsing for interviews; the application process was draining and daunting. Thankfully, with the assistance of seniors, online resources and campus society events, I managed to refine my applications throughout the process- achieving a 90% interview hit rate. This was a far cry from my first foray into the ambiguous world of applications however- I remember my first attempts at recruitment a couple of years back after my military service, where I used a random CV template I downloaded off the net. To no one’s surprise, I got a grand total of ZERO replies. Looking back at how far I’d come, I realised that my journey, wrought with failures and successes, could very well provide guidance to others who are on a similar path.

On a seemingly unrelated topic, Warwick has a student run service called Nightline, which provides peer support for students who may be facing academic stress, personal issues or homesickness, amongst other matters. They also provide free sexual wellness resources i.e. Pregnancy test kits and comfort food for students in need. I remember being rather inspired by the idea when I first heard about it; my restless, entrepreneurial mind immediately started wandering, thinking about how this concept could be applied and expanded in a local, Singaporean context. Having assisted my single mother in refining her outdated CV and helping her gather information on government welfare assistance programs which were often decentralised and complex to navigate, I noticed worrying gap in the social services sector.
Thus, LA Edge was born. An ironic yet logical blend of capitalism and philanthropy, I hope to leverage my expertise and experience to make a positive change in someone’s life. Be it crafting a CV for an ambitious undergraduate hoping to land an Investment Banking internship, or for a recently retrenched employee hoping to find a job to feed his family; LA Edge’s two-pronged business model allows me to serve individuals across the socio-economic spectrum, whilst generating effective revenue.
